Bicheno Dive Centre
For the divers who have been to Bicheno (pronounced “bish-eno”),
and have fond memories of some of the older dives (Golden Bommies, The Castle,
Bird Rock, Muirs Rock to name just a few) there are many more being discovered
by visiting divers on exploratory trips. Have you heard of "Guinea
Pig"? No! It is a towering granite boulder just 1.5 metres below the
surface down to 30 metres with swim thru's surrounding the base. The only thing
wrong with this dive is you will have to move all the fish away to see the
sponges and sea whips in their full splendor.
Looking for something shallower? 20 metres, "Canuck Rocks", with its
scattered swim thru's and a magnificently bejewelled wall that will blow your
booties off! For the macro photographer nudibranchs and sea spiders add
even more colour to the wall, and for the wide-angle lenses crayfish pose in the
many rock ledges.
The Staff at Bicheno Dive Centre are not only very capable, but also only too
willing to share their knowledge of their many dive sites to mainland and local
divers alike. With Pat Taylor and Bruce Priestley, skipper of the Devil Cat
"IRUKA", you couldn't be in better hands.
Pat,
a SSI Instructor with a world wide reputation for the excellence of his training
courses is available to pass on his knowledge and experience, ensuring a
complete diving experience with Bicheno Dive Centre.
